Password Problem when installing postgres 8.3.1

Whatever i enter into the password box, it gives me this message.

I have tried suspected default passwords such as postgres, dbpass, and anything i might have set myself on this computer, nothing seems to work...

Is this Vista? If so, did you disable the UAC before installing PostgreSQL?

Yes it is Vista (installed Service Pack 1 because PT3 said it required it to run latest version of postgres. I have now uninstalled PT3 and postgres and am attempting to install postgres again in an attempt to convert my pt2 accesss db into postgres

UAC is turned off.

Try changing the account name to "postgres2". I don't know why it would be giving this kind of message.

Ok, i changed it to postgres2 and entered a password, and it asked me if i wanted to create a new account or something, i clicked yes/continue, then got to this window

I entered my chosen password and got that message...what do i do?

1) Completely uninstall Postgres from Add/Remove Programs.
2) Check \Program Files\Postgres and make sure it's really gone.
3) Reboot.
4) Click Start -> Run ... and type in "cmd". (Hit Enter)
5) At the prompt type 'net user postgres /delete"
6) Now reinstall Postgres 8.3.3

Tarix is right, go to the c:\program files\postgresql\8.3\data folder and delete that folder.

When you use the Start > Run > CMD option, it opens a DOS window.
Enter without quotes....

net user postgres /delete

Note the space between "postgres" and the "/" but NO SPACE between the "/" and "delete".

Then reinstall.

You said reinstall 8.3.3??

I was reccomended this link as the newest version, that's what i downloadedlast time (yesterday)

I'm not sure what the changes are, but the latest version is 8.3.3 and it works well with PT2. If you have a decent internet connection I would download 8.3.3 and install that.

Ok downloading now. I am almost sure however, that i will run into some more problems in installatiion though! Thanks for the help so far guys.

Bear in mind i have Vista, which has been a pain for me so far, seems really buggy and causing me a few problems. Fingers crossed
