Database on seperate machine equals slowdown?

Hello, i am running pokertracker on my windows xp machine and with it i use a postgreSQL server running on my workstation running linux.

My original idea behind this was to both share the database between my two windows pc's, but more than that to increase performance as my windows pc is not the fastest hardware configuration.

Everything is working fine but the performance has gone to hell, just updating the cache on PAH takes forever (the database is quite large, but still 30+min?).

The thing is neither the server or windows machine are hardly working at all, I tried increasing the amount of memory allowed for postgres but without any change. It doesnt even utilize the network more than about 10 kb/s, no wonder it takes so long to transfer everything.

Anyways my question is this, does anyone have any ideas how i can increase my performance? It seem like there might be something limiting the per connection performance?
