A Few ?'s

Postby Tru80 » Sun Feb 15, 2009 2:46 pm

1) Does "highcard" in the player combinations database refer to any hand that does not make at least 1 pair (ie. 32 on a JT9r board) or is it specifically a hand that has some high card value (ie. A5 on the same board)? If there is a draw (ie. AQ on the JT9r board) does it get counted as both the draw type and highcard or the draw only?

2) What are the different integers for "hand_strength" in player combinations?

3) Can the lookup_actions X/F/C/B/R notation be used to create stats that can be displayed on the HUD?

Thanks

1. Yes, "highcard" in the player combinations database refers to any hand that does not make at least 1 pair.
If you have a highcard and a draw, you can filter for either of these and the hand will be shown. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but basically yes it is counted as both types.

2. This post doesn't answer this exactly, but it's related.
I haven't documented all the values of this so far, but I'll do it when I have some time.
The best thing to do is to set up a custom stat to show the value for hand strength and add it to a report like Known Starting Hands Detail.

3. Yes. Have a look at the last post in the Custom Statistics and Reports FAQ.

I've just had a quick look at 2, and I don't think there is an actual list of these. I can't find a lookup table for them in the database anyway. I'm not sure how much use this field will actually be in building stats, actually - it seems that in general the stronger your hand is the higher the value will be, but there are some different hand types that get the same value: e.g. second pair and an overcard, and 2 overcards with no pair both count as 2 for hand strength.
I think you would be better to use the boolean flg_xxx fields in that table to see exactly what hand you made.

Thanks for the answers. For 2) I'm specifically looking for a hand_strength (or maybe something in lookup_hand_ranks or lookup_hand_groups) that would include everything >= 2pair so I don't have to type out all 7 cases for each custom stat. If there's no list, I'll see if I can figure it out through trial and error.

I may be able to help with 2),
lookup_hand_ranks.id_hand_rank < 212 is everything over 2-pair.
lookup_hand_ranks.id_hand_rank < 290 is 2 pair and higher (inclusive).

Perhaps logically, better hand equals lower id_hand_rank, hence the <'s
